Demetra George’s Thirty-Year Path Through Hellenistic Astrology
As discussed in her recent interview with Chris Brennan on The Astrology Podcast, Demetra George’s journey into the world of Hellenistic astrology began thirty years ago with her introduction to Project Hindsight in 1992, through which she would be exposed to the first new translations of the Hellenistic astrological corpus brought to light through the groundbreaking work of Robert Schmidt, Robert Zoller, and Robert Hand. Over the course of her subsequent education in classics, during which she studied Greek and Latin in order to deepen her grasp of the mythology and culture underpinning Greco-Roman astrology, Demetra began the long, arduous process of “translating the translations” of these ancient texts into pragmatic chart-reading procedures.
In April 2002, ten years after her first encounter with Project Hindsight, Demetra taught the first course on Hellenistic Astrology at Kepler College, thus beginning her formal work of reviving Hellenistic astrology for modern practitioners. Twenty years later to the very month, this work of a lifetime culminated in the release of the second and final volume of her magnum opus—Ancient Astrology in Theory and Practice: A Manual of Traditional Techniques—thus bringing her work to completion.
As Saturn apotelesmatically returns to its origins, the ultimate purpose of this work—to restore the ancient foundations of western astrological practice—is now fulfilled. In synchronous homage to her achievements, Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon converge in tropical Pisces to pour forth their blessings: today the book reached Amazon’s number one position under “Astrology: Best Sellers” and “Astrology: New Releases”.
